We understand that financial strain can make it hard to get the things you need, including medicines. Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance is designed to ease this strain, so you can get your Novo Nordisk medicine and stay focused on your health.*

About Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance

Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance covers the cost of select prescribed medicine(s) made by Novo Nordisk, as well as standard markups and dispensing fees equivalent to those paid by the various provincial public payers. Please note that you may be responsible for any additional charges at the pharmacy.

Eligible patients can use the Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance benefit card for initial and subsequent refills of prescriptions for a period of up to one (1) year, at which time you will need to renew your coverage.

Throughout the year, you may be randomly selected to confirm your household size, household income, and access to drug insurance.

Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance will cease when you no longer require support by improving your household income, securing public or private insurance coverage; or the program has been terminated by Novo Nordisk.

Ask your healthcare provider for a Novo Nordisk Care™ Financial Assistance benefit card.

Am I Eligible?

You may be eligible for Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance if you meet the following criteria:

You legally reside in Canada.

You meet the household financial criteria.

You do NOT have access to a public drug plan offered through various provincial, territorial, and federal programs.

You do NOT have access to a private drug plan typically provided through employers or purchased independently.

You have a new or current prescription issued by a Canadian healthcare professional for a product that is currently covered by the program.

Your prescription will be filled by a Canadian pharmacy.

To apply for Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance, you must first have received a Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance benefit card from your healthcare provider. If you meet the program eligibility criteria, you can activate your card online or by phone.

If you are under the age of 18 or require assistance completing your application, you may delegate a guardian or representative to complete the application on your behalf.

Household Information

Household Size: The number of people within your household that are dependent upon and/or contribute to the gross household income. Household size can extend to dependent children living outside the home where ongoing child support payments are legally required and/or to dependent children who live outside the home to attend school.

Annual Gross Household Income: The combined annual gross income for all members of the household. This information can typically be found on your T4 tax statements.

Drug Insurance Information

Prior to applying for Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance, be advised that this program only provides support for patients with no access to private or public drug insurance.

Public insurance is provided by provincial/territory or federal governments.

Private insurance is typically provided by an employer but can also be purchased independently.

Healthcare Professional Information

You will need to provide us with the contact information for the healthcare professional who prescribed your Novo Nordisk medicine.

How do I get a Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance benefit card?

Please contact your healthcare provider to obtain a Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance benefit card. This card is required for enrolment into the program for eligible patients.

If your healthcare provider is unaware of this service, please request that they contact their Novo Nordisk representative.

Can a Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance benefit card be used for more than one Novo Nordisk medicine and refills?

Yes! Your Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance benefit card can be redeemed for a single covered medicine or any combination of covered medicines, for that province/territory.

The same benefit card can be used for subsequent prescription refills and renewals until you no longer require financial assistance, have secured public or private drug insurance coverage, or the closure of Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance by Novo Nordisk.

Does my Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance benefit card expire?

Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance benefit cards expire 1 year after you enrol in the program.

To ensure there is no lapse in coverage, you must re-enrol in the service. A Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance service representative will contact you to remind you to re-enrol before your benefit card expires.

Are there any costs or fees for my medicine?

Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance covers the cost of the medicine made by Novo Nordisk as well as mark-up and dispensing fees equivalent to those paid by provincial public payers.

The cost you pay at the pharmacy may vary depending on the various mark-ups added by individual wholesalers and pharmacies along the distribution chain. You may be responsible for these additional charges at the pharmacy.

Can Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance be used to pay for insurance plan deductibles?

No. Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance is an option for patients who do not have access to any drug insurance and cannot afford their medicines. Patients who have access to drug insurance plans, private or public, are not eligible.

If you have successfully enrolled into the service and then acquired public or private insurance post-enrolment, you must inform the program of this change. Your Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance benefits will cease shortly thereafter.

Do I need to cancel my Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance benefit card if I obtain drug insurance after enrolment?

You must cancel your Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance benefit card by speaking with a Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance service representative at 1‑833‑595‑1899, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am–8:00 pm EST.

Please be advised that your benefits will cease if there is evidence of a public or private insurance payer.

How will I be informed if my application is successful?

You will learn your application status immediately after submitting your information online or to a Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance service representative over the phone.

Please note that it will take up to 2 hours for your card to be fully programmed and activated for use at the pharmacy.

Can someone else complete the Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance application on my behalf?

Yes! There is an option for a guardian or patient representative to apply for the service on your behalf. This person must have your consent. They will accept the legal terms and responsibilities of the service on your behalf.

Does Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance support any languages other than English or French?

The online application portal and all printed materials are available in English and French only. A guardian or patient representative can assist by applying for you online if you provide consent.

Alternatively, you may call one of our Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance service representatives to request an enhanced, secure translation service. Unfortunately, needles and other supplies are not included in the Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance service at this time. Novo Nordisk Care® Financial Assistance is solely focused on providing medications.
